A direct maritime route between France and Africa: under what conditions?

Commissioned by Pont-Bridge France as part of CAPBLEU | BLUESHIFT 2026, this study uses actual trade flows to assess the feasibility of a regular maritime service between Canada and Africa. It shows that current bilateral trade is not yet sufficient to justify an immediate regular service, and identifies the levers for building the necessary volumes, including a bi-monthly service scenario to gradually test the market.

€18.25 billion
Canada-Africa trade in 2025
350 000 t
of containerized goods to be captured per year;
≈ 12 days
passing through Lomé–Halifax;
97 765
Used vehicles exported to Africa in 2025

Three angles of analysis;

Business realities
Mapping of flows between Africa and Canada and actual weight of containerized goods.
Economic feasibility
Tested service scenarios, capacities, transit times and volumes required.
Strategic Opportunities
